A couple of years ago I tried putting my 3 oldest children in choir. I soon discovered that the boys were not interested at all. My daughter loved it though. This year my daughter is in dance and choir. She doesn't perform for us at home much but I often hear her singing in the shower.

My 3yr old fell asleep with these safety goggles on. I don't know where she got them or why she was wearing them? I had to get a picture though.

I'm not sure if she put herself in the basket or if she was stuffed in there by her older siblings? Either way she looks happy enough.

Burrow (that's what my son named his snake) is now six months old. He has a few more feet to grow before he's fully grown. He'll stay skinny and won't ever be as thick as a ball python but he'll get to about 5ft long. I must admit that corn snakes make very great pets! We only have to feed him once a week, he hardly ever poops and he is very, very tame.

Hello Texas

After Christmas I was able to go visit my brother who lives in Texas. It's been forever since I've seen him and it was so refreshing to spend some time with him. Man I love him! He is such a good guy! It was so nice to meet my sister-in-law and my three month old niece. I'm so glad my brother has these two beautiful girls in his life.

Don't tell my husband.... but I've been secretly praying that we some day move to Texas so I can be closer to my brother.

Football Season

My oldest is really into football this season. I found some cheap tickets for him and my husband on the classifieds. So cheap... and as you can see it was the furthest row back. But he didn't care, he was just glad to be at the game! That's my boy!

After all these Friday night games of course, the boys want to practice their tackling skills.... My younger son decided to make a "helmet" out of a milk jug. It kept falling off ... just like the BYU player's helmets XD

My oldest has been saving all his money to buy a pet corn snake. He was so excited the day we set out to purchase his long anticipated pet. The entire morning he sat outside playing with a toy snake to pass the time faster.

$25 handed over and the snake was his!!!

We had the terrarium waiting in the truck of our car for the 45 min. drive home. C* was bubbling over with excitement! I'm proud of him! All his hard work has paid off. Great job buddy!

After home schooling for these past two years, I've finally decided to do a little something of a mix between home school and public school. My kids are doing a charter school that has a multiple age program, smaller classrooms, elective days and one day off a week for home school. I think this will be a better mix for me.

Although, from the pictures you can see that my oldest wasn't happy about his first day but the younger two were thrilled!

After a nice little picnic together, my husband took the kids for a walk along a trail and let me stay behind near the river. It was so nice to just breathe in the crisp air, listen to the rushing water and silence all around...It was wonderful!

My youngest had a birthday. She had fun making cupcakes with me....

This is a 16ft long Python from Southeast Asia.

Of course, my oldest boy was in absolute HEAVEN! To say he loves snakes is an understatement. He's obsessed with them!!

Even my daughter joined in on the fun!

Next thing on my list to do is buy a snake. At least that's what my son keeps telling me.

Tradition

It's a tradition that every year around the 4th of July we camp out in a tent out on the lawn. This year I went as far as bringing out an extension cord so I could cook fresh pancakes for the kids when they woke up. They loved it!

We also have a tradition of watching the hot air balloon race. We have to get up pretty early because the balloons take off at sunrise.

They really liked this Darth Vader balloon!

Well you've seen the proof here. You don't need video games to entertain your kids.

I found out all you need is some cardboard and a DVD that circles it's theme song on the menu page. At least that's all my kids needed to feel like real rock stars.

And... Yes... my son is wearing his long underwear on purpose. He calls it his "rock star clothing." hmmm not sure where he got that idea but I guess his get-up could be worse considering the "clothing" I've seen in the real world.

Train Ride

I took a train ride with my parents, my kids and my niece. Man that was one, old, run down train! It broke down along the way and I wasn't sure if we'd be walking back to our cars. But hey, the kids sure loved the extra loooong ride. They were ready to jump back on after our little 3 hr trip. Crazy kids!

OH my goodness would you look at that face!!! SOOO SWEET! This girl has me wrapped around her finger with this look. She does it all the time! Dang her cuteness!

I got this idea for Minion Cakes online. My kids love the movie "Despicable Me" so much that my boy wanted these for his birthday. They are fun to make but they took me almost 3hrs to make 9 of them! Good thing his birthday only comes once a year.

Pringles Periscope

My 5yr. old son had poked a hole in the bottom of a pringles can and asked what we could make out of it. I had the idea to make him a periscope.... so I broke off the mirrors from a couple of my makeup compacts, used a little hot glue and electrical tape and viola!! A periscope!! He loved it!

4 Teeth for the Tooth Fairy

My 7yr. old girl just turned 8 a few days ago. And for her birthday she's getting Orthodontics.

I know... I didn't think they could start that young either! But she has some teeth growing in pretty crazy and needs Ortho so she doesn't have "shark mouth" (I mean 4 rows of teeth). Yep her permanent teeth are growing behind her baby teeth. She had four extractions of baby teeth the other day. She was as brave as a soldier! She didn't cry or complain with any of the shots and was perfectly still. The dentist was so impressed that he said she could take as many prizes out of the treasure chest that she wanted. That's my girl!

P.S. This is my girl "serving tea" to her frog, Naveen. She's had this orange frog for a year and she's played with it every day. It's been buried in mud, hung from it's toes, stretched, torn, taken on family outings, splashed in the bath and almost turned inside out. From all her play, the frog had become so gross that I couldn't stand picking it up when she left in on the floor.

So for her birthday we said goodbye to Naveen and.... we got her a new rubber frog. It's the same as her old one except green.

As I was taking care of a few things on the computer, I could hear some chattering along with the clanging of dishes in the kitchen. I could hear my kids speaking in fake English accents and the sound of water running in the sink. I peeked around the corner and asked what they were up to. "We're chefs!", they replied. "Oh how wonderful" I said sarcastically, as I felt the crunch of spilled dry cereal underneath my feet. I lifted up my shoe to brush it off and couldn't help notice the evidence everywhere of their "chefness". Several bowls of water were sloshed on the table swirlled with salt, pepper, paprika, cinnamon, sugar and rice crispies. "Yum!" I said. "Looks like you guys have been busy. How long do you guys plan on being 'chefs' this morning?"

My oldest boy really, really, really, really likes snakes. He could tell you anything and everything there is to know about snakes, REALLY! I have no idea what got him so interested in them? He checks out 6 different books about snakes every week from the library and reads them all cover to cover.

His favorite snake is the green anaconda (the largest of the boa constrictors.) He saved his own money to buy this 72 inch stuffed anaconda... His dream is that someday he will own a real anaconda for a pet. HA! Over my dead body!... or over his. Maybe I'm speaking literally... ever seen that show, "Fatal Attractions" on Animal Planet?..... moving along....

One day he set up this tennis ball to be attacked and eaten by a slithering rubber snake and caught it all on camera! Amazing footage!

He likes to include his "pets" in everything. He makes sure to bring them out each morning and carefully prop them up at the edge of the hallway. He wants to make sure they have a good seat so they can "watch" us having our family prayer and scripture study each day.

We went to a reptile show for a family night and he got to hold the skin of a snake. Anxiously he shouted out to the instructor, "This looks like a python of some sort... is it a python, maybe a Burmese Python?" The instructor said he was close... it was an African Rock Python.

The best part of the reptile show was touching a real live snake! Yippeee!

I don't remember what kind this was but he could tell ya I'm sure.

... well I was right... I asked him if he remembered the name of this snake

and he said, "it's a rosy boa".

My husband likes to spend one-on-one time with the kids doing whatever they want... within reason of course :)

When it came time for my 5yr. old boy to spend time with daddy, he requested they make a rocket together. Well that might seem like a tall order for some but not when you've got a really creative dad! My husband went to work using a box cutter, a straight edge, an old diaper box and of course... a hot glue gun. My little boy used his awesome painting skills and finished it off with some dazzling red and green to make it "a rocket for Santa to ride in."

Isn't it great!!! I'm impressed!

My 5 yr. old pinned these up on my wall next to my bed so I could constantly admire is artistic ability.

You see in the cross section of the house the different levels:

Level 1: (left) someone watching T.V. flipping stations with the remote
(right) one kid is getting ready to raid the fridge!

Level 2: (left) couple kids doing karate practice
(right) someone folding clothes... most likely the mom because I don't think kids can process how to fold clothes.... or at least I have been successful in teaching mine.

Level 3: (left) someone really short trying to reach the bathroom sink to wash their hands...
(center) some sort of ladder in the middle of the house... hey, why do we even have stairs when ladders are so much more fun right? I just want a house with a slide!

(right) I think this is a picture of someone sitting on something... I'm not sure if that's related to the bathroom sink over to the left and that's actually a toilet? If that's the case... it's an awkward place for a ladder... don't you think? I mean, I like a little more privacy than that.

Level 4: (or the attic)... the funnest thing in the world to do is jump on the bed! and what a better place for it than in the highest room of the house!

My son also pinned up an alarm clock for me next to his drawing of the lovely house. This is to help me wake up in the morning.... It's perfect because that is my kind of alarm clock ... one that doesn't make a sound :D

My 5yr. old wanted to sit on the corner and sell crumbs of bread, I knew that it wasn't the ideal marketable item but who am I to dash his dreams? I let him make a sign and package the bread crumbs into baggies. He sat on the corner waiting so patiently...

...believe it or not, he did make a sale! Yep. I was his first and only customer.
Honestly, how could anyone resist a face like this? Sure he'd be happy to sell you bread but this boy is PRICELESS!

Painting for FUN!!

Every year when Father's and Son's Outing comes around my husband takes our two boys and I have a girls night with my daughters. The same night as the outing I had a "face-in-hole" painting I was making for a church carnival.

I was well aware that my daughter was looking forward to our girl's night together so I asked her to tell me what she wanted to do for our outing. She said, "I want to paint with you!"
I said, "are you sure... because we could do lots of things, we could do each other's hair or paint nails, go for a bike ride or watch a movie?"
"Nope, I just want to paint."
"Ok," I consented.
So I got out some paper and paint and she sat next to me working on her picture as I worked on mine. After she finished a few masterpieces she curled up on the couch continuing to show a great deal of interest in my work. I asked her if she was bored.
"Not at all!" was her response. "I could watch you do this forever."
And well, maybe it wasn't forever... but she did stay up and watch until almost midnight.

Here she wanted to take a picture of me with my face in it before it was done. It's kind-of a strange angle because cardboard is lying flat on my floor.
This is the final product. Can you see it? I based it off a Title of Liberty painting from one of my favorite Christian artists, Walter Rane.

Dress Up

You would think she would be so happy to be receiving her birthday cake for her 2nd birthday?

But no.... she was terrified!!

Why?

Well... just a few days before we were lighting little things like these in our driveway for the 4th of July and they exploded... Our sweet little 2yr. old thought these were firecrackers too, poor thing. I'd be terrified too if someone lit those and shoved them in my face!

It took a while but she finally warmed up to the candles and realized these we not going to explode :)

For choir this past June the kids did a performace called, "Annie Meets Newsies". It was my kids first real performance in anything and they did a fantastic job!!!

During the Olympics this year my 8yr. old son really got into the speed skating. He is also into big cats. So why not combine the two? He drew this picture of speed skaters and some heroic cougars that rescue a fallen olympian. The owner of the cougars is cheering in the stands.

He explains the drawing to me....

"see the different speed skaters ..."
"This guy in front was trying to cheat... he's the one who tripped the skater that fell... see he has a mean look on his face."

"See the cougars helping the guy who was tripped... I promise mommy, the cats are not eating the olympian they are helping him back up."

"... this is the guy who owns the cougars... he's cheering them on."

What could be more exciting than Christmas morning???...... watching THE GARBAGE MAN of course!!! Every Thurs. morning the garbage man drives into the apt. complex to empty our dumpster. As soon as the children hear him coming they leap out of bed and run to our living room window to watch eagerly. What could be more exciting than watching the garbage man!?

I was quizzing my son on his spelling test and he wanted to draw pictures for each word. Some of these are hilarious!!

Hole: (this is a picture of a guy throwing a rock into a deep hole which then causes the earth to shake terribly and trigger a volcano eruption.) .....who would have thought.

My husband really wanted to make a homemade piñata with the kids. He's been talking about doing it for a long time. We ended up making it so thick it was as solid as a rock... LOL. Good times though.

Zucchini Baby?

My friend gave us a large zucchini from her garden and my little boy wanted to carve a face on it. So I carved a little face for him and he carried around for a couple of days pretending it was a baby.

Then we had to grate the zucchini up to make some bread. Having my son become attached to it made this task somewhat difficult if you could imagine.

3 Dishwashers in one house!!!

My dishwasher has been broken for a long time and we don't have the money to replace it so now I have 3 dishwashers! And they do a fantastic job. I think we end up with more water on the floor than in the sink though. We are trying to make jobs in the family a team effort and not just one person doing all the work. Sometimes it's more work for me than to just do it all myself and sometimes they fight... but for the most part they are learning to interact with each other and communicate as they work together.

Of course we have one more helper. She's just old enough to splash in the water though. She does a good job at just being cute.

Me and my sisters-in-law were gone for a weekend to Time Out for Women http://deseretbook.com/time-out/events_2010 Something we enjoy doing together every year!!

Well my son was upset that I was leaving and decided to plan a get together with all the guys. My brothers-in-law all had other plans but it was so cute to see this invitation my son made. He loves getting together with family!
